Liverpool fans were swooning over £50 million midfielder Jorginho on Sunday as the midfield transfer target dominated Juventus in Serie A.

Napoli pulled out a huge result yesterday. A last-minute header won them the top of Serie A clash with league leaders Juventus. They are now just one point behind Juve with four games to play. The Old Lady has to face Roma and Inter Milan in that span making it a very interesting end to the Italian top division

While most were watching for the drama, a number of Liverpool fans were checking in on one of Jurgen Klopp’s top summer transfer targets; midfielder Jorginho. And they liked what they saw.

The Italian dominated the game, making more passes than Juventus trio Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi and Miralem Pjanic combined. Yet it is not just the racking up of stats that impresses, it is the work rate and quality that really stands out.

Jurgen Klopp demands a high level of effort from his midfield three. Jorginho has some Xabi Alonso qualities – range of passing, silky with the ball – but also has some steel and energy as well.

Reds fans are already imagining what it would be like if Jorginho paired up with Naby Keita this summer at Anfield. They have complementing attributes and would become the foundation of a new look Liverpool midfield.

While the current midfielders have been criticized for their respective limitations, there cannot be too many complaints over their output. A Champions League semi-final and third place in the league is significant progress.

The thought is to add Jorginho and Keita would be enough to push Liverpool into a new level of consistency. The Champions League run has shown how devastating Klopp’s side can be. Yet the recent draws at Everton and West Brom only highlight the need for greater depth and quality for the first team.
