Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was outstanding against Roma in the Champions League and this highlight video will seriously impress you!

The Liverpool captain divides the opinion of the Reds fanbase. There are those who believe he is an exceptional player. Others who think he is very decent and our captain so we should back him. Then there are those who use terms like ‘fraud’ and ‘bang average’.

Well his display against Roma in the Champions League semi-final first leg was firmly in the first camp. He put in an excellent all-round midfield performance; tackles, passing, through-balls.

Many did not notice the quality of his game on Tuesday. The attention was firmly on the super-human ability of Mohamed Salah and the brilliance of Roberto Firmino. Henderson did not get his due praise – partly due to great games from Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner also.

But now we have a highlight video of the captain’s display and it is seriously impressive. Watch this and tell me he “only passes sideways”:

This was his best game of the year in the biggest (so far). No player matches his performances to the level of the opposition like Henderson does. That is both high praise and fair criticism. Where I get frustrated with the captain is when we don’t see a dominant showing like Tuesday against Swansea or West Brom. Because we should see that more regularly.

One thing I would love to see before this season is out is another Jordan Henderson goal. The captain has only found the score sheet once this term; the winning goal in the 3-2 victory over Leicester away. That was waaaaay back in September. The Champions League semi-final second leg – or a repeat of his wonder goal against Chelsea – would be great occasions to end the drought.
