Center Back: Ragnar Klavan

I do not feel good about Dejan Lovren playing four straight games. Especially with the last two of the three being the most important. He started against Roma and will be needed in the second leg and against Chelsea. Let’s give him this game off this weekend.

He was at fault for the first Roma goal on Tuesday so it is not like putting in Klavan suddenly makes us more vulnerable. The Estonian is fine and Stoke do not offer much of an attacking threat.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will be missing through injury. Peter Crouch is not much to worry about at this stage of his career. That leaves Mame Biram Diouf as the only real threat in the front line. Van Dijk should be able to handle him so we can afford to start Klavan on Saturday.

The only thing I would do is to keep van Dijk on the left of the pairing. That is where we have been most vulnerable this season. Having our best defender on that side makes the most sense. I would rather have Klavan accommodating for van Dijk than the other way round.
