Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

JOE GOMEZ. 5. A couple of mistakes in the first half hour were greeted with groans at Anfield and anger online. The worst was where he flew in for a tackle that was easily evaded by Bauer who crossed for Diouf who missed Stoke’s best chance of the half with a header at the back post. Not interested in slating the youngster as he comes back from injury but it was a shaky performance from Gomez today.. Right Back. Liverpool

7. Another week with van Dijk as the only first choice defender at the back. They faired slightly better this time around but the manager still cannot rest his best defender ahead of a huge game. Another game where you have not worries about the opposition forwards because the Dutch wall is in the side.. Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK

Center Back. Liverpool. RAGNAR KLAVAN. 6. Lovren got another week of rest with Klavan coming in and once again, doing fine. The main disruption to the back four with Klavan is that he takes the left sided center back role and forces Virgil van Dijk to the right side.

Still looks like a player who has not played many minutes, mainly because he hasn’t. He worked hard and chased readily but his final ball was off all game. Perhaps he has lost confidence now he is firmly the second choice left back. We needed more from his offensively to help break down the amassed ranks of Stoke.. Left Back. Liverpool. ALBERTO MORENO. 6
