Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has led the roast of Dejan Lovren after he won the FWA Footballer of the Year.

Although this is a different sort of roast. It’s a friendly roast. The type of roast a married couple of 50 years might pull off, safe in the knowledge that nothing is beyond the pale.

And as the Reds squad pulled together with Salah clutched between them to celebrate his achievement, the Croatian defender couldn’t stop looking at his hero. As the rest of them posed, eyes front, Lovren was distracted by a magestic sight.

Of course, there has been no more magnestic sight than the Egyptian cantering at full pace towards a terrified defence, and for that he’s been lauded.

Salah’s roast comes as Lovren has no say in the matter. The FWA awards is chosen by football writers, who were conflicted between Manchester City’s Keven de Bruyne and Salah.

With 43 goals in just 48 appearances, the former AS Roma man has done far more than any fan expected him to do upon his arrival.
