Liverpool failed to secure Champions League football for next season with a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the league. Here are our Liverpool player ratings v Chelsea.

It’s never easy with Liverpool Football Club. A 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge means Liverpool go into the last game of the season with next year’s Champions League status still in doubt. The Reds will have to win against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield next Sunday to secure entry to the European Cup.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made just one change from the side that progressed to the Champions League final in Rome on Wednesday. Nathaniel Clyne came in for only his second start of the season for captain Jordan Henderson. The right back took his normal position with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving into midfield.

Liverpool started reasonably brightly but conceding a well worked Giroud header played right into Chelsea’s game plan. The Reds, tired from the Roma game, did not have the creativity to break down the Blues. A lack of firepower from the bench was again apparent as Liverpool never looked like getting a result in the second half.

Here is our Liverpool player ratings v Chelsea:

7. Made a comfortable save from Alonso early on and little else to do in the first half except pick the ball out of the net from Giroud’s goal. Chelsea crafted a number of opportunities but did not threaten Karius.. Goalkeeper. Liverpool. LORIS KARIUS
