Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

Slightly surprising to see Klopp trust Clyne in such a big game. The right back still looks off his peak sharpness after missing almost the entire season through injury. Picked up a booking and was a significant downgrade from Trent Alexander-Arnold or Joe Gomez. Subbed off after an hour for Henderson. Has a long way to go to be a relevant first team player again.. Right Back. Liverpool. NATHANIEL CLYNE. 5

6. Did his best to compete with Giroud for the opener but the ball was played perfectly in between the Croatian and his center half partner. Eden Hazard did his best to pull Lovren out of position and while the Belgian had a good game for the Blues, Lovren did not give up that second goal.. Center Back. Liverpool. DEJAN LOVREN

7. Many criticized the Dutchman for not being close enough to Lovren for the opener but he was where he should be according to Klopp’s zonal system. The Blues plan was to get crosses in from Moses, Alonso and Hazard drifting around but they were largely frustrated by van Dijk dealing with their attempts.. Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK

ANDREW ROBERTSON. 6. Had a very busy game with Chelsea regularly attacking down their right hand side. Allowed Moses to cross the ball for the opener after the Nigerian shifted on to his left foot. An unusually down game for the Scotsman highlighted by being taken off for Dominic Solanke with 15 minutes to go.. Left Back. Liverpool
