Liverpool fans are delighted that right back Trent Alexander-Arnold has made the 23-man England Squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The stellar rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold hit a new height today as he was named in the England squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia. England boss Gareth Southgate named the 19-year-old player in his 23-man squad marking his first call up to the international side.
Alexander-Arnold will be competing with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier for the right wing-back or full back role. Interestingly with only three recognized central midfielders in the squad he may operate cover for that position too. He has played there twice for Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent weeks.
The call up is just rewards for an excellent season at Anfield. He began the year as an emergency option at right back after Nathaniel Clyne was ruled out with injury. He grabbed the chance at an unfamiliar position and has been outstanding in Liverpool’s run to the Champions League final.
Liverpool fans are over the moon for the wonderkid:

The only other Red named in the squad is Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez would almost certainly have made the plane to Russia but both will miss out with injury.
Adam Lallana will be very disappointed – but perhaps not surprised – to miss the tournament. He has been injured for most of the season and has not shown enough in the games he has been available for to justify the move.

It is incredible to think that Alexander-Arnold’s first games for England will be part of a World Cup squad. His rise has been so meteoric that he has only featured for the England Under-21’s on three occasions. Everyone involved with Liverpool Football Club is over the moon for the lad.
