Has Steven Gerrard just pulled off a transfer coup and poached Liverpool young star Harry Wilson?

It has been reported by verified Twitter account The 4th Official that Gerrard has used his personal connections with the forward to secure a season-long loan deal.

Apparently, City wanted to take him on a temporary basis again – while northern sleeping giants Leeds United were also interested in signing Wilson on loan.

But Gerrard has pulled off a bit of a steal and poached the winger, who will now spent the season in Glasgow getting to grips with the Scottish Premier League.

The 21-year-old has had a weird 2017/2018. After making his comeback from injury, Wilson was restricted to making second-string appearances and absolutely smashed it. In 12 games, the Welsh international scored 10 times and earned his January move to the Tigers.

Despite a brief spell on the sidelines, the Wrexham born starlet flourished in the Championship and hit the back of the net seven times, assisted four other goals and played just 13 games.

This sparkling form led to some sections of the Liverpool fanbase hoping that he would be given a chance in the first team next season, and certainly that would be a tremendous feelgood story.

However, given how Wilson struggled to get into the squad this campaign it’s probably a step too far to think manager Jurgen Klopp would throw him in after just 13 second-tier games.

Rather, a move to Scotland’s premier division and regular football for Rangers is probably the best thing for the attacker right now. He is still young, will develop at Ibrox and that should allow Wilson a better chance at making the grade the season after next.

Definitely keep an eye on how he goes over the border. It’s still a strong competition and the Premier League does throw the odd example up of players who came from there and had an instant impact – as Virgil van Dijk can testify.
