Real Madrid are getting cocky before facing Liverpool in the Champions League final tomorrow by claiming they are superior in every way.

I would expect Real Madrid to be confident. For a start they are Real Madrid; there isn’t a bigger club in the world. They are also the two-time reigning champions of the European Cup. They have won the Champions League three times in the last four years. I wrote last week about how they have every right to show confidence.

But now it looks as if that rightful assuredness is turning into bloated hubris. They are getting cocky. El Pais journalist Diego Torres has been giving insight on BT Sport into the Real Madrid camp before tomorrow’s final.

He claims he has never seen a Real side so relaxed before a final. He says they know that the finals are “made for talented players; special players'”. Apparently they believe they have more talented players than this Liverpool squad.

That’s pretty bold. But then he ramps it up another level: “They feel they are so superior. Everyone is preparing for a party in Kiev”. Watch the clip below:

This will be music to Jurgen Klopp’s ears. This Liverpool side are never better than when they are underdogs and when they are underestimated. Ask Pep Guardiola.

Yet surely three finals in recent years means this Real side have seen it all already? Not quite. The three finals were against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side twice and Juventus last year. Two teams who are geared to be rock solid, hard to break down and rigid in their system.

That is not Liverpool. These Reds will smash you in the mouth, and while you are still checking how many teeth you have left, they’ll kick you straight in the nuts.

It is impossible for Real to be ready for the force and speed of this Liverpool side. The only teams that have contained the Reds this season are those who have camped out in their own penalty area; Mourinho bus style. And we all know – because they are telling us – that they believe that is beneath them. All the best, lads.
