Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has put the Champions League final ahead of his faith and won’t fast for Ramadan in the lead up to it.

This is according to a report in the Spanish media, who interviewed a member of the Reds backroom staff on the subject.

El Larguero spoke to physio Ruben Pons, who said that Salah will not forgo food and drink during daylight hours for Friday and Saturday.

According to previous news stories in Marca.com and the Liverpool Echo, the Egyptian was going to stick to his fast. This news is translated from Spanish, and so may contain some inaccuracies – but the story appears to be legit.

Ramadan lasts until June 15th and all practising and fit Muslims are expected to abstain from eating and drinking anything during daylight hours.

However, if the news is false, Salah will still be able to consume something before kick off on Saturday as nightfall in Ukraine is predicted to happen around half an hour before the final starts.

This news could be seen as a boost for Reds fans, who will want their best players in top shape as they try and beat giants Real Madrid.

Sadio Mane and Emre Can are also members of the same faith, but there is no news about their plans for the game.

With 44 goals in all competitions, Salah has been Liverpool’s best player by miles and their success in the Champions League has a lot to do with his heroics.

Talisman forwards are hard to come by and even harder to keep a hold of, and it’ll be vital that the club do manage to keep their best players at Anfield.

A good final will improve the Chelsea flop’s stock even further, although if it brings another famous European night to Merseyside you’d doubt that anyone would complain.
