Liverpool fans are falling over laughing at Merseyside rivals Everton after their stated ambitions during the unveiling of new manager Marco Silva.

Laughing at Everton; it’s what we do. Liverpool fans are well-known for dragging their city rivals at every opportunity. After a disappointing finish to the 2017/18 season with the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid, Everton are doing their best to put a smile back on the faces of Kopites everywhere.

Most of the hilarity stems from the latest news that Everton have appointed Marco Silva to replace Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park. The Portuguese manager is well-respected but doesn’t exactly have a glowing CV after getting Hull relegated last season and being sacked by Watford earlier this year.

But it is the rhetoric that comes with an appointment like this that really gets the fans going. Primarily it is the claim that Everton should be the ‘Atletico Madrid of England’.

They should be the third best team in the country? They should win the league? Consistently challenge for – and win – European trophies? Good luck with that one Marco!

That seems a little bit ambitious. Maybe they should try simply improving a -14 goal difference in the league. Cementing 8th place is a more realistic goal.

The Bitter Blue fans are not wasting time heaping their own expectations on the new boss either. One fan is predicting a top four finish next season.

Some football fans are hesitant to laugh at other clubs; there could be some karma from the footballing gods to be dealt out. However when you consider that Liverpool have not lost to Everton since 2010 – seventeen games – then there is little to be afraid about.
