Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has agreed a contract with Juventus, say to reports. This is why he won’t be missed at Anfield.
Italian website Gianlucadimarzio.com has said that Can and the Serie A giants have agreed terms on a four-year deal.
This is one saga that has finally reached its logical conclusion after nearly a full year of rumblings. Since September it was pretty clear that the German would only stay at Merseyside if the club let him insert a back door into his new deal. Can wanted a clear exit path from the side. He’s got his wish.
Despite playing an important part in manager Jurgen Klopp’s side, the man won’t be missed. His desire to have his cake and eat it won’t be missed. Can’s need to have an easy way out won’t be missed. And by replacing him with Fabinho and Naby Keita, his skills won’t be missed.

Klopp often wanted to use Can as a holding midfielder, a position the man himself probably didn’t enjoy that much. But with the arrival of Fabinho, a defensively minded player of tremendous ability, that position is now covered.
As for the bustling, box-to-box role that Can would have liked more, that too is covered. Keita has been one of the most exciting Bundesliga players over the last couple of seasons and now he’s heading to Anfield. So that box is ticked, too.

Just as importantly, both of those players really want to be there. They want to part of the project that Klopp is building. They want to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere around the place and they want to take the team to new heights.

Every player wants success, of course they do. But what’s clear is that Can wanted it now and if he couldn’t have it now, he at least wanted to leave for a place that could (if the price was right). Having a foot in both camps is never going to be enough, and the team is better off without him.
