Liverpool transfer target Nabil Fekir mysteriously left the French World Cup squad the last few days amid speculation of an imminent transfer to Anfield.

It doesn’t take much to get tongues wagging and side-eyes emojis tweeting during the transfer window; especially around the hottest rumours in football. The potential move of Nabil Fekir from Lyon to Liverpool needs little fuel to turn into a fire and the French National Squad provided today’s drop of gasoline.

The Twitter account of the French National side – @equipedefrance – tweeted out a picture of Nabil Fekir today with the caption: @NabilFekir a rejoint Clairefontaine pour la suite du stage de préparation. #FiersdetreBleus

That translates to: Nabil Fekir has rejoined Clairefontaine for the rest of the preparation course. #ProudBlue

That tweet raises the question: where did he go? There was a ton of speculation over the weekend that he was going to be at Anfield talking with the Liverpool hierarchy about a transfer move. Most of those rumors came from French based journalists. The English journalists were either silent or a few of them looked to temper the speculation.

Few are in doubt that there are transfer talks between Liverpool and Fekir. The Reds certainly want the player and he is believed to prefer a transfer move to Anfield over Chelsea or Spain. It is thought an initial bid for Fekir has been rejected with Lyon hoping a stellar World Cup for Fekir will drive up the price.

It is hard to know where the truth lies surrounding this transfer. The pattern for many recent Liverpool transfer has been that foreign journalists have been the ones to keep the Liverpool fans updated.

That was the case with Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah. For both Keita and Virgil van Dijk there was early indication of a move to Liverpool from their friends social media accounts. We have seen some of that from those close to the French star.

The sudden move of Fabinho to Anfield from Monaco has simply put everyone on hypersensitivity for news this summer.
