Five of the biggest snakes to play for Liverpool

Liverpool have had a few snakes turn up for them in the past, but the departure of Emre Can adds another to the list.

The German midfielder deliberately ran down his contract, deprived the club of a good transfer fee and announced that he would join Juventus on a free transfer.

In a debacle that had been going on since September 2017, it started to become pretty obvious that Can wouldn’t be signing terms on a new deal. He wanted a release clause, an easy way out. Liverpool wanted more commitment than that – as you’d hope they would.

All in all it was fairly snakey behaviour from a lad who had been brought to Merseyside as a talented youngster and developed into a fine midfielder with plenty more potential to improve.

Manager Jurgen Klopp will be sad to see Can leave, especially on a free – but there should be enough in the squad to cover that loss.
