Fernando Torres

Aaaahh Fernando, you absolute heartbreaker. For years Torres had the world at his feet and plunged fear into Premier League defender’s hearts. But then it kinda simmered away.

81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool is an incredible record, but it started to go downhill in the 2010/2011 season that Torres was sold to Chelsea. The striker’s return of nine goals in 23 league games was poor by his standards, but that still didn’t stop the Blues parting with £52.65 million in order to sign their man.

What happened next?

Torres had a spectacular goal drought and only scored the once during the entire second half of the league campaign. Chelsea finished second that season, miles ahead of sixth places Liverpool, but the Spaniard failed to replicate the team’s success.

In fact, he scored half as many goals for the Blues as he did for the Reds in 30 more games! But, he did grab that Champions League winner’s medal as well as an FA Cup.

Torres was eventually sold to AC Milan, via a loan spell, in 2014 before making a famous return to Atletico Madrid one year later.
