Seven players Liverpool sold to a direct rival – and what happened next!
Yossi Benayoun
Israeli international Yossi Benayoun has played for nearly all the Premier League’s big teams, so it’s no surprise to learn that he’s also made the switch from Liverpool to Chelsea.
The Reds signed him from West Ham in July 2007 for around £6 million and the midfielder had a good impact. Benayoun featured 134 times for the Reds, scoring 29 goals and assisting 19.
What happened next?
Then, Roman Abramovich thought ‘hhhmm, I fancy a bit of this’ and bankrolled his move to Stamford Bridge in 2010 for £6.30 million.
Benayoun had less success in London and was loaned out to Arsenal after just a year with Chelsea. From there, he went straight back to the Hammers on a temporary deal before being released.
All in all he featured just 24 times for the Blues, and is still playing in his native Israel – where the 100 cap international turns out for Maccabi Petah Tikva.
