Robbie Fowler

He was loved on Merseyside but a £15 million offer from Leeds United was accepted in December 2001 and that was that.

Robbie Fowler had two spells with Liverpool and managed 154 goals in 328 appearances, along with 11 assists. Loved on the terraces and by managers, Fowler can consider himself unlucky to have played on 26 times for England.

By winning six trophies during his time at Anfield, it can be said with absolute certainly that the striker gave his best days to the Reds. One League Cup in 1995 was followed by an FA Cup, another League Cup, and a UEFA Supercup back-to-back result – all within the confines of the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons!

What happened next?

But 14 goals in 31 appearances across two years wasn’t enough to lift an ailing Leeds, who finished the season he signed in fifth place. By contrast, the Reds fell seven points short of Arsenal, who won the title that season.

Manchester City then had a £8.82 million bid for Fowler accepted and he stayed there for three years, scoring 27 goals in 90 appearances.

Liverpool then came calling again and the striker rejoined on loan and then permanently when his City contract expired. Fowler lasted just one more year at Anfield before going to Cardiff City.
