Sturridge has sparked rumours of a revival following two goals against Chester that fired a warning to all those who have looked to write him off. It also fires a warning to fellow strikers Danny Ings, Origi and the youngsters who are sniffing a changing of the guard.

The 28-year-old must now prove a consistent eye for goal, excellent fitness and dedication if he is going to force his way into Klopp’s plans. There may be some redemption yet.
