Liverpool fans are bursting with delight at the confirmed news that the club have made a huge bid for AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

After the World Cup they said. Nothing until then. “Yeah right” we all thought. But they weren’t lying. Liverpool Football Club have made a world record transfer bid for a goalkeeper after reports were confirmed today that they have offered a deal of £62 million for AS Roma stopper Alisson Becker.

The transfer bid is for £53 million with £9 million in add-ons. That eclipses the £35 million Juventus paid for Gianluigi Buffon way back in 2001. It is believed that Roma are holding out for a little more after setting the valuation at £66 million. The reports claim a deal is likely to be agreed but hasn’t as of writing.

In true Red fashion they Liverpool fanbase are loving it on social media:

The two clubs have a good relationship after last summer’s deal to for Mohamed Salah. However the Italians are cautious not to let another star player go for a fee that looks incredibly low in a year’s time. Salah arrived for £36 million. He would now be worth north of £150 million. That don’t want history repeating.

Chelsea and Real Madrid have noted interest in the Brazilian but Liverpool can take advantage of their respective situations. The Blues want Alisson to replace Thibaut Courtois if the Belgian jumps ship for Real.

The La Liga side have more urgent priorities in the transfer window as they seek to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Those clubs are at an impasse when it comes to Alisson and Liverpool are moving quickly to take full advantage.
