Loris Karius will begin the season as Liverpool’s number two goalkeeper but one Liverpool legend still believes he is a problem for the Reds.

It has been a bad three months for Loris Karius. After winning the Liverpool number one shirt from Simon Mignolet he undid all his good progress with a horror show performance in the Champions League final. Letting down all your teammates, work colleagues and a few million fans is a bad start to the summer.

Then he lost his job. Liverpool spent a record-breaking fortune to ensure they don’t have to rely on him anymore. At this point it is not just his future at Liverpool that looks uncertain but the viability of a top-level football career.

Add to that the stream of insults, threats and ugly meanness thrown his way by some ‘fans’ and you can’t help but feel sorry for the lad.

Well one former Liverpool star still wants to stick the boot in. John Aldridge tweeted today that Karius is “still a problem” for the Reds.

Another error filled showing against Borussia Dortmund last night prompted the tweet questioning Karius’ mental state for playing at Anfield.

He claims that Karius is still a problem if Alisson gets injured or suspended and we are back to relying on the German. The implication being that Liverpool should sell him.

I think the German keeper leaving this summer is highly unlikely. Not least because I believe Klopp is invested in him; not just as a player but as a person. I think Klopp will do everything he can to help Loris Karius regain confidence; even if his long-term future is away from Anfield.

Aldridge finishes his tweet by saying we should trust Klopp. Well part of trusting Klopp is not slamming Karius in a tweet at every given opportunity!
