Every year is a big one for Liverpool and every year players are fighting for their places.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has made a big statement of intent with his activity in the transfer market. The squad has depth and quality, but it also needs to be trimmed down.

And that means there will be certain footballers who will know they need to up their game or get the chop. Whether that’s during first team duties or for a loan side, 2018/2019 is make or break for a number of men.

Rush The Kop has picked out five who have perhaps got question marks over their squad status. Maybe their on the decline, maybe they’re on the fringes of the side and are trying to break through.

Pre-season friendlies can only do so much to prove to Klopp how much value a player has. The real cut and thrust will come in the league and that’s where people have to step up.
