Liverpool took on Torino in their final preseason game and walked away with a straightforward 3-1 win thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino, Gini Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge.
The game itself was exactly what the Reds needed, a game where they could win fairly easily at home that gets fans excited for Sunday’s Premier League opener against West Ham.
Liverpool dominated in terms of possession and creating chances, which showed the growing chemistry between the attackers and the new midfield. It also served its purpose as one last fitness check for the lads to make sure they are in form and shape to start a grueling campaign.
Despite scoring three goals, the scoreline could easily have been more. A missed penalty from defensive midfielder Fabinho and some easy chances blundered by Mohamed Salah, Sturridge and Danny Ings kept that score at that level.
This marks the second goal Wijnaldum has scored in just as many games, and it is showing that he really wants to keep his spot in the team. With Liverpool’s midfield being as deep as ever, it will be extremely hard to get consistent minutes.
Sturridge also picked up a late goal, and is showing that he really could be back on. Reds fans are buzzing about that one. But nevertheless, let’s get into the ratings.
