Liverpool fans aren’t that bothered about the news that Marko Grujic has completed a loan move to Hertha Berlin.

But before he was shipped out to the Bundesliga, Grujic signed a new contract at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp placed a clear show of faith in the midfielder’s ability to make it on Merseyside.

Liverpool announced the transfer on Twitter, but didn’t specify the length of the contract. However, Paul Joyce (who is the Times’s northern football correspondent), revealed that it’s a brand-spanking new five year deal.

And Reds’ supporters don’t really care about the deal, which will see Grujic spend more time away from the club as he looks to make it in the big leagues. Have a glance below to see some of the more choice reactions to the news.

Since he signed from Red Star Belgrade in 2016, the World Cup man has made just 14 appearances and it really appears as if Grujic’s path to the first team is blocked by players that are better than him.

The arrival of Fabinho and Naby Keita would have made it nearly impossible for the Serbian to get any minutes this season, so a loan move is definitely for the best. Torino had been the latest side linked with Grujic, but their offer was rejected out of hand.

But the positive from this is that Klopp has once again remained patient and secured the best deal possible. Liverpool are aware of this quality from a buyers perspective, but it’s reassuring to see it when other clubs want to buy/loan Reds.

When dealing with younger footballers, its especially important to make sure the right club is found. A good loan spell can make or break a career, as Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson found out last campaign – for contrasting reasons.

Should Grujic have an excellent season in a top five league, that new contract will look like a stroke of genius. If he doesn’t, Klopp has probably just insulated his value. Good work all round.
