The stats prove Brighton are in for a shocker on Saturday
Liverpool host Brighton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday and the stats prove that the away side are in for a shocker.
Because let’s face it, the Seagulls have taken an absolute battering from the Reds in the past. They lost both fixtures last season by an aggregate score of 9-1, which is bound to linger on in the player’s memories.
Despite masterminding a victory over Manchester United, Chris Hughton’s men are there for the taking – as their 2-0 loss to Watford on the first day of the campaign proved. Despite spending over £60 million this transfer window, Liverpool shouldn’t let Brighton leave Anfield with any points.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are undefeated in their last 22 Premier League games at home, an incredible run that stretches back to the final stages of the 2016/2017 season in which Crystal Palace beat the Reds 2-1 in April. Philippe Coutinho scored first that day, before Christian Benteke defied logic and hit twice for Palace either side of half time.
Liverpool have also kept clean sheets in their last six league home games, and are yet to concede this season. And so while it’s true that the Seagulls managed to hit three past a normally astute United defence, the Reds have something Jose Mourinho doesn’t: Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk has revolutionized Klopp’s defense and those who play in it. One day we may all look back at the moment he joined from Southampton as the start of something truly special.
But further up the pitch is where the headlines are to be had. Everyone knows that Liverpool have an electric attack, and Brighton may know that better than anyone else. That’s because the Reds’ have scored more than four goals against Hughton’s team in their last three encounters in all competitions.

This run stretches back to the 19th of February 2012 and a convincing 6-1 win. Incredibly, the Seagulls hit three own goals that day – while Martin Skrtel, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez also got on the score sheet.
There have also been more than two-and-a-half goals scored in nine of Liverpool’s last 11 home games – while Stoke City were the only side to keep a clean sheet at Anfield in that time.
And so it all seems pretty clear: the Reds should romp home to a win on Saturday afternoon. The stats have already decided.
