Liverpool are set to let Lazar Markovic leave Anfield before his contract runs out and fans have reacted with relief.
According to journalist James Pearce on Twitter, the club still reckon Markovic will quit Merseyside in the next week – although Pearce didn’t specify whether it would be a loan more or a permanent one.
Ever since Brendan Rodgers signed the Serbian, his Merseyside career has been on a downward spiral.
A rapid player with good dribbling ability, Markovic never seemed able to get his head up and make good decisions with the ball at his feet – while that red card against Real Madrid was pretty much the beginning of the end.
How has he still got another year left on his contract 😂

Loan after loan followed for the youngster, who had temporary spells with Fenerbahce, Sporting CP, Hull City and Anderlecht. At 24-years-old, he could represent a good deal for someone. It just won’t be Liverpool, and fans are keen to see the back of him. Have a look below to see how they reacted to the news on Twitter!
The club are proving fairly good at making the most of the European window, in which they can still make sales – but this is the last time Markovic will be able to leave for any money as his contract expires in the summer.
After being signed for around £20 million from Benfica, alot was expected of the young Serbian. However, Markovic has made just 34 appearances and scored three goals. That’s a lot of money for very little return.
The difference in transfer dealings between Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp is massive. While the Northern Irishman clearly had good intentions – buy some of the best young players and develop them – Klopp’s execution is better.
Where Rodgers seemed to make rushed decisions, the German takes his time and moves when everything is right. He’s prepared to wait, as the Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita deals showed, and nearly always gets it right.
The road to hell are paved with good intentions and that pretty much sums up Markovic and his Liverpool career.
