Liverpool sign former Spurs man and he is “buzzing” to be a Red

Liverpool sign former Spurs youth goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle after the youngster impressed on trial at Anfield this summer.

The transfer window may be firmly shut but Liverpool are still making deals happen. The Reds most recent transfer move is to snap up goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle. The Guyanan international has been on trial at the club since July and it looks that he has clinched a permanent deal on Merseyside.

Posting on Twitter yesterday McKenzie-Lyle said he is “buzzing to start a new chapter @LFC”.

He then retweeted a picture from his agents of him signing the contract:

He is 20-years-old and already an international for Guyana. He played for Spurs as youngster before moving to Barnet. He made his debut there at just 17-years-old when he was called on after a red card to the starting keeper.

They shipped him out on loan to Cockfosters, St. Ives Town and Hayes & Yeading United before his trial at Anfield.

He is a gigantic 6 foot 7 inches tall making him the tallest player at the club by some distance. You are a big fella if you can make Virgil van Dijk look up to you!

Alisson Becker is the undisputed number one goalie for Liverpool with Simon Mignolet, one of the longest-serving players at the club, as his backup. The Reds also have Caoihmin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara as promising youngsters.

McKenzie-Lyle is expected to compete with the two youngsters in the Under-23 side. The club announced they have also signed a new goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson who has been brought in specifically to develop the young stoppers while John Achterberg continues his work with the first team keepers.

Liverpool head to McKenzie-Lyle’s former club Spurs tomorrow for a crucial Premier League clash. A win will keep them at the top of the table and maintain their perfect start to the season.
