Liverpool vs Tottenham: Rampent!? Fans aren’t having a bar of Redknapp
Liverpool travel to London to play Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday and fans aren’t having a bar of Jamie Redknapp’s predictions.
Redknapp, who played 240 times for the Reds and 48 games for Spurs, thinks that the home side will find it difficult against Jurgen Klopp’s boys.
And while that statement in itself seemed to be accepted by fans, it was the former midfielder’s decision to label Liverpool as ‘rampant’ that caused the most concern.
To be fair, the Reds haven’t been at their best since the 4-0 win against West Ham on the opening day of the season. Victories by small margins against Brighton and Leicester could hardly be described as rampant, while Liverpool have been handed a fairly easy start to the campaign.
Redknapp did go on to say that the Reds would be the ‘last team’ the Lilywhites would want to face at home because of their ability to hit teams on the break with extreme pace. After losing to Watford before the international break, Mauricio Pochettino will want his players to bounce back.
“Tottenham have really got to get something out of this game, and it won’t be easy against a rampant Liverpool,” the pundit stated.
Another poor performance will surely result in several uncomfortable questions being raised with Pochettino and the Spurs heirarchy. They failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer window, while all their main rivals pressed ahead with squad-enhancing deals.
And this is a point Redknapp picked up on as he questioned their summer strategy. “If they (lose) against Liverpool, there will be a lot of question marks asked about why they didn’t buy players, why didn’t they strengthen?,” said the Sky Sports man.
Standing still is tantamount to moving backwards when every team in the league is looking to improve with every window. While Liverpool spent big to plug obvious gaps in the squad, Tottenham decided everything was working well and didn’t drop a penny.
But now with Dele Alli, Hugo Lloris and possibly Son missing, Pochettino could soon learn to regret that decision.
