No.3 – Milner Shows His Worth

Once again, Liverpool’s Man of the Match wasn’t one of the expensive superstars. It was free transfer (unbelievable business, by the way) James Milner. The Englishman recorded 3 key passes and 5 tackles in an all round battling performance from start to finish.

Coming up against the likes of Christian Eriksen in midfield was never going to be easy, but the former City man made it look exactly that. He looked a little behind the pace when Spurs were moving the ball around at their most fluid but adjusted brilliantly; stopping them from even getting started.

When Fabinho and Naby Keita arrived in the summer many thought that Milner would shift into an occasional rotation role. The vice-captain was having none of it. Instead it has been Fabinho who has yet to make an appearance and Keita who is the first midfielder off.

He may not start every game now we are playing twic a week. However, his experience will be absolutely vital not only in this tough run in, but at the business end of the season in the hunt for the Premier League and Champions League.
