Wijnaldum leaps to correct social media gaffe
Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum has lept to correct a social media gaffe he made at the expense of Sadio Mane.
Mane has come received criticism from some supporters for a perceived selfish nature to his football, and Wijnaldum liked one of those comments on Instagram.
But in a flash the Dutch international wrote an explanation for his wayward fingers and sought to ease concerns that he believed Mane wasn’t a team player.
A grab of Wijnaldum’s comment was placed on the Reds Reddit page – where fans quickly jumped in to support the former Newcastle United midfielder.
"Wijnaldum accidently likes comment about Mane being selfish then replies to squash any ego rumours from LiverpoolFC"
The midfielder has been an unexpected star of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign so far and will be desperate to have the same impact in the Champions League.
Many would have considered Wijnaldum to be a fringe player after the signing of Fabinho and Naby Keita, however Jurgen Klopp gave him a chance and the Netherlands’ star has responded by shaping his game and doing exactly what Klopp desires.
Mane, too, has hit the ground running and is the team’s leading goalscorer for the season. Despite Mohamed Salah’s improved reputation, the Egyptian has struggled a bit this campaign and Mane seems to be taking his game to a new level.
Tuesday night marks the start of the Reds Champions League campaign as Paris Saint Germain make the trip to Anfield.
No matter how good the atmosphere, PSG are an excellent team who posses an array of freak players. Neymar is one of the world’s best and will cause problems for any team. Distractions of this nature are no good, and fans should be happy that Wijnaldum leapt on his mistake to clear it up.
Getting to the final for a second year in a row will be a tough ask for the group and Liverpool have been given a hard group. But if they make their way out of it, belief will be high and the team can use that to their advantage.
