Jealous fans have got extra salty as Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has picked up the prestigious Puskas award for best goal last season.

Salah’s goal against Everton was picked via an online vote as the best strike of the 2017/2018 campaign – beating world superstars such as Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

With 38% of the vote, the Egyptian romped clear of the competition and adds another piece of silverware to his overflowing cabinet.

Thanks to an army of loyal followers, Salah has continued to do well in popular votes as those from his homeland mobilize around a computer and ensure their idol wins whatever competition he’s a part of.

But salty football fans from around the world have struggled to contain their jealous, complaining that his strike against the Toffies wasn’t even Salah’s best of the season or claiming that the Puskas should have gone to someone else.

To be fair, that first point may be valid and there is definitely an argument to be made that says the goal the forward scored against Tottenham Hotspur was a bit more special – but that doesn’t matter now as the case is closed.

The former Chelsea and AS Roma star hasn’t got off to a great start this campaign and has looked a little disjointed at times. There have also been ridiculous and juvenile rumours going around that Salah doesn’t get on with Sadio Mane, which has led to a mini online hate campaign against the Senegalese international.

Liverpool take on Chelsea on Wednesday night in the League Cup before doing it all again over the weekend in the Premier League. Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp should be delighted for his man, but can’t let it distract too much from the job at hand.
