Liverpool fans have a lot of trust in Jurgen Klopp but there is one player they are desperate not to see against Chelsea in the League Cup.

Slowly but surely Liverpool are beginning to trust Jurgen Klopp in every team lineup decision. Even when fan favorites or new signings are left out (or derided players are included) the results are justifying the manager’s decisions.

However there is one key player that Liverpool fans do not want to see on the pitch against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night at Anfield.

There is a huge consensus that Virgil van Dijk should be rested and given maximum time to recover for Saturday’s league game at Stamford Bridge. The Dutchman withdrew from the 3-0 win against Southampton in the Premier League with a rib injury and Reds do not want him risked for the League cup matchup.

One good piece of new for those hoping van Dijk gets a rest is the return of Dejan Lovren. Klopp indicated in his pre-match press conference today that the Croatian looks ready to return to first team action.

After playing through injury in the World Cup the center back has not featured for the Reds this season. A combination of a late return and the injury means he has had no pre-season and has not taken to the field since the World Cup final in Moscow, back in July.

Joel Matip made his first start of the season for Joe Gomez on Saturday and could be lined up with Lovren in the heart of the defense tomorrow night.

The manager has already confirmed that Simon Mignolet will start in goal and that he will select a “good team” to compete in the League Cup. There is much hope that Fabinho will make his first start and Naby Keita will return to the lineup.
