No.3 – Away Day Joy

Liverpool played seven away games in Europe last season and lost only once. That loss was the 4-2 game in Rome when the Reds already had a 5-2 advantage from the first leg. From those fixtures one game stands out in particular; the 5-0 win in Porto.

That thrashing set the tone for the victories against Roma and Man City in the next two rounds and showed the world that this Liverpool side is not to be underestimated.

The traveling Kop gives the Reds an edge in Europe unlike any other side. There is so much of the fan culture around Liverpool that has originated in these trips. Anfield nights and European aways are the very soul of this football club.

No-one wants to play us in this competition. And they are right.

The banners, flags and songs will be out in full force. Those nights in Italy are especially heightened because so many of the club’s biggest nights have come against Italian sides. There is a lot of history – good and tragic – with Reds traveling to Italy and that will set the table for a game Liverpool should win.
