No.3 – Center Back Security

Against Man City in recent games I haven’t worried about the Reds scoring goals but keeping them out. This time round it is the complete opposite. I am nervous that the forwards have to find form but I am not concerned about our defense.

Virgil van Dijk has been Liverpool’s best player this season but he is getting serious competition from his young center back partner.

Joe Gomez was man-of-the-match for the Reds last night in Napoli. His heroic defending kept his side in the game until the final minutes on a particularly poor night for Klopp’s team.

I have no doubt that Guardiola will target the Englishman and push Aguero away from van Dijk. Gomez has soaked up the pressure in every game he has played this season and there is no reason to think that Sunday will be any different.

And that is crucial against City. You have to know you are not going to give them anything cheap or easy because they have the quality to create plenty for themselves. They need no help. And they won’t be getting any from this defensive duo.
