No. 4 – Anfield Alive

A number of Liverpool fans have complained about the atmosphere at Anfield over the last few seasons. The increase in out-of-town fans who don’t know the songs and traditions; those who are too busy taking selfies to watch and engage with the game.

However we have not heard much of that moaning in 2018. The atmosphere at the club palpably better; more exciting, more electric than in recent years.

The Champions League run and good start to this season has been a huge part of the new optimism. But there has also been a new influx of songs to grace the terraces of the Kop that have breathed new life.

Allez, Allez, Allez; The Mohamed Salah song; The Naby Keita song; All of these get the crowd going and create a moment that is linked to the history of the club but feels very ‘now’. History is being formed and memories being created at Anfield every week.

I expect the feeling around the ground to rival the best European nights. Kopites know what this game means and how they are crucial to inspiring the Reds and intimidating the Blues. Man City thought they were ready in April. They weren’t. There is no reason to believe they’ve got any better at repelling waves of Red songs, scarves and cheers.
