No. 5 – De Bruyne Blow

There is a chance that Kevin De Bruyne makes his first start of the season at Anfield. He has managed only 31 minutes from the bench in City’s first game of the season and has been suffering with knee ligament trouble since then.

I think the chances of him playing and certainly starting a hugely optimistic. They will not jeopardize their best player early in the season with a knee injury. A sore hamstring? Maybe. But not a knee injury. Serious damage to those ligaments could end his season.

His rehabilitation will be careful and that is great news for the Reds. Bernardo Silva is more than a decent replacement for the Belgian but he doesn’t stand out like his colleague. Whenever de Bruyne takes the field he either tears up the opposition or gives room for David Silva to do it for him.

Klopp has been able to neutralize that threat in recent games against City but he will be without Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; two players who would be crucial in the high pace pressing of City’s midfield.

Having de Bruyne out means that Klopp can field Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and either Fabinho or James Milner and not worry too much about keeping the City central players in check.
