Liverpool fans are overjoyed to find out that Daniel Sturridge has won the club Player of the Month for September.

Despite playing a reduced role in the first team, Sturridge exerted an oversized influence on the side and was rewarded for his efforts by being crowned the POTM.

The former England international made four appearances, two starts and scored three times. Those goals came against PSG in the Champions League and then Sturridge terrorized Chelsea by scoring against them twice in the space of a week.

One came in the Carabao Cup loss, but the second was an absolute cracker from well outside the area to salvage a point for Liverpool.

This award marks a clean sweep for the striker in September as he was also given the Goal of the Month for that second goal against the Blues.

Sturridge will now want to push on and seriously challenge Roberto Firmino for his first team role – something that hasn’t happened for a long time. The forward was once a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ machine and will be keen to get back to those levels.

And legend Robbie Fowler thinks that 2018/2019 can be the rebirth of the once-feared hitman. The official club website reported that Fowler thinks Sturridge can be a constant source of goals – but fitness has always been a concern with the Liverpool man, and he’ll have to cast aside those daemons.

It’s been four years since the striker last hit double figures, and he’s only done so three times throughout his whole career. But those 21 goals in 26 Premier League starts during 2013/2014 will forever be a glittering memory for Reds fans.

Sturridge has only started 30 league games since then and this campaign doesn’t look like bucking that trend much. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the 29-year-old and we can only hope that he’ll make the most of his place in the last-chance saloon.
