Liverpool are dominating this odd Premier League statistic after they beat Huddersfield 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Out-of-sorts forward Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game to give the Reds an unbeaten start to the league after nine games – a record they share with Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Blues required an extremely late equalizer from former Everton lad Ross Barkley to maintain their run of form, while City waltzed to an electric 5-0 win against Burnley.
And that means that for only the third time in league history, three teams have gone the first nine games unbeaten. And every time this has happened, Liverpool has been among the trio.
This weird and wonderful bit of trivia comes with Opta, who stated that it had been done in 1978/1979 and the 1990/1991 seasons. The Reds won the league back in 78/79, and had to settle for second place during 90/91.
Arsenal won the league as they only lost once, while Crystal Palace finished third and Luton Town avoided the drop by three points.
Right now, Liverpool are level on points with City – who have a goal difference of +23, while the Reds’ is only +10. Chelsea are sitting two points below the top two, while Tottenham Hotspur are fourth and level with the Blues.
Spurs owe their good start to the season to the fact that they haven’t drawn a single game and count only two losses among the first nine.
Liverpool play Arsenal on the 4th of November but then have a fairly easy run through to Christmas. Jurgen Klopp will expect his players to beat Cardiff, Watford and Fulham before November is over.
But with crunch Champions League games against Red Star Belgrade and PSG on the horizon, before derbies with Manchester United and Everton in December, the next two months will be very important.
