Small minded former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville would rather fail than see Liverpool succeed, he revealed on Twitter.

Taking to social media a few days before the Reds take on Arsenal in north London, Neville was asked a question about Salford City’s success in relation to his biggest rivals’. And the answer was pretty small minded. Have a look below to see what was written.

The former United defender co-owns City with fellow players Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville and billionaire Peter Lim.

Salford have been accused of trying to buy success, especially by those who operate in the same non-league sphere as the side.

When the signing of Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney was announced, who reportedly earns £4,000 a week, Accrington Stanley owner Andy Holt told Neville that his team were trying to ‘steal’ a place in the football league.

But despite pumping all that money into a non-league side, it appears as if the Monday Night Football man would rather see them get relegated than witness a rival doing well.

Neville would rather the team he says he loves, the team he owns, the team he’s invested go down and his dream take one step further away from becoming reality than see Liverpool win something.

How petty is that.

Everyone loves a rivalry, but when it comes to wishing bad things and poor results on something you love in order to see something you hate do badly, well that’s when you know things have been taken too far.

Salford are currently top of the National League on goal difference, with Wrexham, Leyton Orient and Harrogate Town breathing down their necks.
