Dominic Solanke has done himself no favours remaining at Liverpool during the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp’s team are looking every inch the team to beat in the English Premier League this season. And they’re doing it without Solanke.
The Reds, alongside Manchester City and Chelsea, remain unbeaten after their opening 10 games, averaging two goals per game and showing their enormous squad depth by featuring 19 players thus far.
The Liverpool attack remains as brilliant as ever, but the duo of Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke look surplus to requirements right now as they are yet to taste action in any of the 14 games played across all competitions.
While the Belgian international doesn’t seem to be a big part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans, the English youngster is seen as one for the future.
At 21, Solanke has a lot of years ahead of him, but a temporary exit from Anfield during the summer would have done his progress and development a lot of good.
The England youth international is currently playing for Liverpool under-23’s in order to stay maintain match fitness, and he is yet to make the senior team matchday squad this season so far.
With backup duo Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri both in fine form, Solanke remains out of the first-team picture, but he could have been playing regular football elsewhere had he pushed for a loan move.
As reported by Evening Standard, Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Rangers and Lyon among others were all keen on securing the loan services of the under-20 World Cup winner during the summer, but Liverpool held on to their man.
With the season set to get busier in the coming weeks, Solanke will most likely be afforded his fair share of chances, but those minutes might not be enough to make him better and add to his experience.
A season-long loan elsewhere would have been more beneficial to his progress, and he shouldn’t hesitate to leave Anfield in January in search of regular minutes.
Liverpool have more than enough backup already.
