Something to behold! Gary Lineker can’t get over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s passing range
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been given high praise by England legend Gary Lineker on Twitter.
The Match of the Day pundit posted his thoughts on Twitter following the Reds’ 2-0 win over Premier League strugglers Fulham on Sunday.
Alexander-Arnold didn’t have the best game but still caught Lineker’s eye with his stylish play – although fellow full-back Andy Robertson claimed an assist and snagged the man of the match award.
TAA has enjoyed an excellent 18 months and his composure on the ball has led to some suggesting that he could play in midfield one day, and the defender was responsible for the pass that led Mohamed Salah to score the first goal of the game.
Its good news that Alexander-Arnold is good with the ball at his feet because the youngster makes more passes per game, on average, than Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner. He also completes nearly 79% of those – more than Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
The right-back has suffered from a dip in form recently, but is still keeping Nathaniel Clyne out of the first team and that’s no light accomplishment. Clyne is an excellent defender and was a key part of the team before his injury, so Jurgen Klopp’s faith in TAA is a real boon for the lad.
Whether it’s from defence or further up the pitch, Liverpool have got a youngster who has made extremely promising improvements in such a short space of time.
With further coaching and exposure to top level domestic and international football, it’s no exaggeration to say that Alexander-Arnold could become one of the world’s best. And with a passing range like that, he could become very destructive from anywhere on the pitch.
The 20-year-old has been called up for Gareth Southgate’s England squad to play the USA and Croatia alongside fellow Reds Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson.
