This is the main thing that Liverpool fans fear for their Premier League game against Watford on Saturday.

Sadly, it isn’t Andre Grey or Troy Deeney or even the creativity of Roberto Pereyra. It’s the referee, Jonathan Moss.

And that’s because whenever the Reds have Moss, bad things happen. He was the man in charge against Tottenham Hotspur when they were awarded two odd penalties and Moss officiated during Liverpool’s 5-0 loss against Manchester City last season.

But really, the Reds shouldn’t need to get a ref on side in order to beat Watford. The Hornets aren’t a bad team and do have players who can hurt Virgil van Dijk and co, but Liverpool are a better side and should come away from London with three points.

Mohamed Salah has an excellent record against them, while the rest of the side is packed with players in good form. Not only that, but Jurgen Klopp’s squad has enough depth to make an impact from the bench when required.

Every side gets bad decisions made against them, but the key is learning how to take the rough with the smooth and move past that. Sadio Mane touched on this when he talked about his offside goal against West Ham vs his onside ‘goal’ against Arsenal.

Over the course of a season teams will end up where they end up in the league because of the quality of their football not the quality of the referring. It does have an impact, but decisions tend to even themselves out over time.

What’ll really make the difference is how Xherdan Shaqiri continues his excellent form, or if Salah can terrorize their defence again. Or if van Dijk has another monstrous performance and snuffs out every Watford chance.

Liverpool are easily good enough to win without worrying about the ref, so let’s all just relax and enjoy the football.
