Pulisic to Liverpool: Is there a real possibility?
Christian Pulisic is a blossoming midfield genius and Borussia Dortmund are beginning to look for his replacement. Will Liverpool pounce?
According to recent reports, the American phenom is primed for a move to the EPL and it would be to Anfield or Stamford Bridge.
Both clubs are in dire need of such a force in the centre of the park and with the funds that both clubs have at their disposal, this is a very real possibility.
The Bundesliga starlet does not always play league games, but he has been in a significant portion of Dortmund’s Champions League matches.
Pulisic has a world’s worth of potential and he can play a vital role for the Reds, even though he’s had multiple injuries in the past and may not last through a rigorous EPL and CL schedule. Yet he can be utilized in the most important matchups or alternatively in a role as a super sub.
The 20-year old attacking midfielder can provide a force in the midfield that the current Liverpool squad do not contain.
His burst will be instrumental for the counter-attack and his ability to create will help to break the attack free, linking all three phases of the game.
The biggest current issue is that the midfield is being trampled by opponents and there is no resistance to the opposing attack from Liverpool’s midfield.
The advantage that the Reds possesses over the Blues is that Chelsea will likely be spending on multiple areas this summer and Jurgen Klopp will solely be focused on the midfield.
Chelsea may be losing Eden Hazard this summer, so this can potentially increase the Blues’ efforts to spend on Pulisic.
American Liverpool supports will be overjoyed to acquire such an influential player for their team, being an American.
Yet it should be noted that there are better and more steady options for Klopp to choose from, as Pulisic’s potential is vast and profound, however, it is just that, potential.
Not every player will reach his potential because outside factors always take hold.
Players such as Nabil Fekir or Julian Brandt will be more steady, in terms of production and availability, and even if they do not reach their full potential are still they are brilliant footballers.
Pulisic is not on that level yet and it is not known if he will ever reach this level. However, the Reds must pay as if he has this summer if a transfer is indeed in the works.
Another major issue is the fact that the American is best suited to be a winger and the position Liverpool need assistance at is the attacking midfielder, such as Fekir.
The case is that the Reds would have to sign another attacking midfielder along with Pulisic because if an injury occurs, as they have been known to with this player, they will be left without an option at this position.
Overall, it is great to create depth, so adding two players at this position may be wise anyway.
Pulisic would be a great acquisition and he is a class above the current members of Klopp’s midfield.
Still, the options are vast and Liverpool should not limit themselves to one player. They must go through the process and see which option works the best for the money being spent.
Rushing to a decision is not wise and Klopp will certainly hand-pick the player that he believes will perform the best in his system.
