Liverpool take on Everton at Anfield on Sunday in the huge Merseyside derby, but Toffees Twitter appears to have lost their mind in the run up to the game.

Everyone knows that you want to get the best of your neighbours, but you don’t have to make up ridiculous stories online in order to do it.

But that’s what some Everton fans have taken to Twitter to do – and their arguments just don’t hold any weight at all.

For a start, the point of a league table is to rank sides in order of how good they are. And over 38 games, you can’t really argue with the standing at the end of the season.

But it also tells you interesting little factoids about how a side has performed over the course of that campaign. Things such as goals scored and goals conceded are important – which is why statement’s such as the one made below are just a bit silly really.

You can stand there and honestly argue that Everton have a better defence than Liverpool when the facts are so obviously saying otherwise. If the Toffies had conceded less than five league goals, then you’d have a point. But they haven’t, they’ve let in 15.

Among those conceded were a ridiculous three against West Ham, who’ve been awful this season and one against Huddersfield Town – who can barely score.

Looking at things with rose tinted specs is all well and good, but when it starts to encourage silly statements like this then it can have its problems.

In the Premier League, Liverpool have higher possession per game, score more goals, complete more passes and make more dribbles. The Toffies do make more tackles, but the Reds don’t need to because they’re in possession more of the time.

You don’t do that with an inferior midfield, either.
