After Liverpool beat Bournemouth to go top of the Premier League it seems like nobody wants to be labelled as favourites.

Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to be favorite. Reds fans don’t want to be favorite. Everyone seems to be happy flying under the radar, doing their thang, sneaking up the table.

But the problem with being the only side left in the entire English Football League to not lose a game means that people are going to start saying things about you.

Guardiola is one of those people, and Liverpool supporters wish he’d keep his thoughts to himself. Oliver Bond reported that the Manchester City manager said he though the Reds were now in pole position to win the Premier League. A nice thing to say, you might think.

That’s because Liverpool are now one point clear at the top of the table after City lost to Chelsea in the later Saturday kick off. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been compelled to keep up this incredible pace by their Manchester rivals, but now the pacemakers have fallen away what will happen?

As soon as Bond reported what Guardiola said, a bunch of Liverpool fans immediately cried ‘mind games’ and urged the team to ignore everything that was being said about their game.

Now we have this curious situation where nobody wants to be called the favorites to win the Premier League because of the pressure that creates. Fans don’t want good things said about their side in case it jinxs them.

Liverpool are probably happy for folks to think they’ll choke because it takes a little pressure off, but the fact is that Klopp is now leading and Guardiola chasing and now things will get real interesting.

This is uncharted territory, but it shouldn’t be territory that people are afraid of. There are no dragons on this section of the map, just buried treasure.
