Liverpool vs Napoli: Fabinho knows what makes it special
Liverpool take on Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night and Fabinho knows what’ll make it so special.
The Brazilian midfielder has started to display the form that persuaded Jurgen Klopp to make a move for the former AS Monaco man in the early stages of the transfer window.
Ex-Red Philippe Coutinho had spoken to the tough tackler about the Liverpool fanbase, and Fabinho had also heard of the famous Anfield atmosphere before the move. But now, wow, he loves it.
Nights like Tuesday are what sparks Merseyside and keeps them alive. It’s a massive game, with everything to play for. Lose and the Reds will be back in the Europa League, a competition no serious team wants to be anywhere near.
But win, and win the right way, and their Champions League campaign will be revitalized. Not only that, but it’ll take some huge positive energy into the massive game against Manchester United on the weekend.
Now Fabinho is living around the city and seeing the atmosphere for big games, he can understand why Coutinho spoke so highly about it – and also why it’s routinely mentioned in the press.
Speaking to the official club website, the Brazilian said that the fans really can act like a 12th man and give the team an important boost.
"Fabinho commented: “I knew about Anfield on European nights, but it wasn’t a very detailed knowledge. You can see how fanatical the supporters are and how much they love their team. They really make a difference.”"
Klopp knows this as well, which is why he’s made a public call to arms for the Anfield faithful and wants them to put on a show as the Champions League rolls into town.
After messing up against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and losing to PSG away from home, the German will need to make one last gamble and hope it works.
