This mad stat about Liverpool star Alisson Becker will turn you into a believer and proves his worth beyond all doubt.

If you weren’t already totally convinced by his excellent start to life on Merseyside, that save against Napoli will take you most of the way there. But to top it all off comes research from Opta, who found out something quite astounding.

Alisson is so good lesser goalkeepers would have let in EIGHT more goals than the Reds man over the course of the Liverpool season.

Jurgen Klopp claimed that if he’d known how good the Brazilian was he would have paid double, and when you look at the figures that statement seems to be devoid of hyperbole.

“If I knew Alisson was this good I would have paid double,” the gaffer enthused. “It was not only one save. He had a lot of things to do tonight.”

And when you consider it, Alisson has pretty much kept the Reds Champions League hopes alive on his own. Of course, it took Mohamed Salah to score the all important goal, but that stop in extra time sealed the deal.

Under Brendan Rodgers the team was notoriously leaky at the back. Kolo Toure might be a beautiful human being, but he can’t hold a stick up to Liverpool’s current offering at the back and their record of only six goals conceded in 16 Premier League games proves that.

Your heart may have bled for Loris Karius after his Champions League disaster, but Klopp couldn’t have turned this side into title challengers if he was still between the sticks. Never mind eight, Karius may have let in 10 – and that sort of thing makes a big difference.

Manchester United are the next team to try and put more than one goal past Alisson and his defence, and you can beat they’ll have a tough time of it.
