Liverpool have had a few transfer bargains in the past, but it’s getting more and more important as fees explode.

The Reds have done particularly well over the past couple of transfer windows as they’ve supplemented their big deals with clever moves.

And that’s why you can have world class stars like Virgil van Dijk playing alongside others who’ve been picked up when bigger sides may have overlooked them.

Jurgen Klopp seems to be good at creaming the top off relegated outfits, and two years in a row he’s bought the best of the worst and used them to improve the squad.

It’s important to keep in mind that just because a fee looks small today, doesn’t mean it was back when the transfer went through. For example, Ian Rush at £300,000 was a record fee for a teenager back when the deal went through.
