Could Andy Robertson have been number one on this list? Maybe. Maybe if it was being written 10 years into the future and Roberton was still at the club, doing bits, getting crosses in. Then maybe.

The fact is that his £8 million fee is incredible value, as is his progression under Klopp. There is no doubt that the Scot is one of the finest left-backs in the league and will become a European great. But not yet.

Robertson has come in and made a problem position his own, which adds a lot of value to the deal. He works out, is a fan favourite and is clearly highly valued by the backroom staff.

If he breaks his leg tomorrow then this deal will have less value in the grand scheme of things – but right now he’s sitting pretty in second place.

1: Sami Hyypia

How could you name anyone else as the best value for money buy Liverpool have ever had? Sami Hyypia cost just £2.5 million from Dutch side Willem II, stayed on Merseyside for 10 years and played 464 games.

Hyypia was a first team regular straight away, and when the scout who recommended him heard how little the club paid he nearly fell off his chair.

The Finn was also a leader and once went 87 matches without picking up a booking – incredible for a centre half! Not only that, Hyypia also hit the back of the net 35 times throughout his time at the club. What a return!
