Liverpool legend John Arne Riise is fuming that nobody seems to remember who he is or what he did on the pitch.

With Andrew Robertson taking all the plaudits following his excellent start to the Premier League season, people seem to be slowing forgetting what Riise was able to bring to the side.

Ever since the Norwegian departed Anfield, it’s been a struggle to find a defensively sound left-back who can also pose a threat going forward. And in Jurgen Klopp’s system, that’s essential.

But now Robertson keeps on going from strength to strength – and was heavily praised by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho after their 3-1 loss on Sunday.

And it’s when the Scottish international performs like that which prompt Twitter users to pile praise upon the defender. But Riise, ever eagle eyed, isn’t shy to jump on a tweet and give his view.

The latest incident occurred when a user called Dan McLaughlin called Robertson the best left-back to play for Liverpool in the last 20 minutes – a period that covered when Riise was also at the club. Predictably, the former Monaco man  was quick to point out that he wasn’t bad either.

Never one to be afraid of telling others he was a good player – the Champions League winner once went into a McDonald’s just so a childhood bully could see his face and know he’d lost at life – Riise seems to be keen to avoid a fading legacy.

And who can blame him? The left-back was adored at Anfield and left Merseyside with a tremendous amount of success behind him. The 110 cap international played 348 times for the Reds, scoring 31 goals and creating 13 others.

If Robertson has half the career that Riise did, it’ll be considered a success. Although the Scot is primed to have an excellent career, and every Liverpool fan will hope he does so at Anfield.
